Indian Head Massage

Niki ~ Holistic Therapist  I.I.H.H.T Dip

Despite the name, it's much more than 'just a head massage'. In fact it also works on the upper back, shoulders, arms, neck and face! The various techniques used give instant release from physical and emotional stress, tension and also eases long-term ailments such as R.S.I, insomnia, headaches, eye-strain and sinusitis. Indian Head Massage has evolved from thousands of years of techniques handed down from generation to generation. It has great therapeutic benefits for the recipient and is quickly gaining in popularity as a treatment for workplace stress, so this too can be performed as an on-site treatment.

I first became aware of  head massage when a good friend of mine who had trained with Nerendra Mehta explained the benefits of Indian head Massage. It has been used for centuries in the East to treat conditions such as migraine and headaches, upper back problems, stiff neck and osteoporosis, arthritis, stress and tension. It can also help to stimulate hair folicles thus beneficial for thinning hair and because of the deep penetration of the oils problems such as dandruff can be alleviated.

The course that I obtained accreditation was a years duration and through this I obtained the Diploma certification which also includes in-depth anatomy and physiology.  Working on the head requires skill and technique, infact it is the most important part of the body and a Practitioner needs to be aware of anatomy and physiology and how the head/brain works before any manipulation can be performed. I hold an I.I.H.H.T Diploma in Indian Head Massage.

What you can expect from an Indian Head Massage

Treatment normally begins with a deep kneading and probing of the neck and shoulder muscles. At times similar to osteopathy but with no crunching or cracking of joints. The head is then worked with the scalp being squeezed, rubbed, gently tapped and prodded. The hair is briskly tussled and gently combed. This is done with pure essential oils blended in a rich base oil for maximum effect or without oils if it is to be done in the workplace.

Pressure points are gently worked on and the ears are tugged and pressed. Lastly I will move to the face, working with acupressure points to help relieve any sinus pressure, stimulate the circulation and increase alertness. The face is also very gently stroked.

The treatment will be performed sitting in a speically design ergonomic chair. Relaxation music will help you relax.

Indian head, neck and shoulders massage treatment is 40 minutes and is £22.00.

£25.00 with the Chi Machine experience.

This can also be performed within the workplace as a corporate therapy without oils.
